Spring As A Pivotal Gift of Renewal
"The universe is infinitely creating never ending orchestras,
and this time of year it’s a joy to contribute a new song."
The Spring Equinox; (March 19th) is celebrated as the first day of Spring, and many cultures and traditions hold it in high esteem as
a sacred time of renewal.
The Violet (1806)
BY JANE TAYLOR
Down in a green and shady bed,
A modest violet grew,
Its stalk was bent, it hung its head,
As if to hide from view.
And yet it was a lovely flower,
Its colours bright and fair;
It might have graced a rosy bower,
Instead of hiding there,
Yet there it was content to bloom,
In modest tints arrayed;
And there diffused its sweet perfume,
Within the silent shade.
Then let me to the valley go,
This pretty flower to see;
That I may also learn to grow
In sweet humility.

In olden times, agrarian farmers rejoiced this week, while beginning
to shed their heavy dogs of winter.
Even in “modern” times, humanity celebrates as new blooms rise up around us everywhere, as we venture outdoors.
Photographers cast aside cumbersome umbrellas and layers of waterproof gear to shoot freely, while welcoming the shadows and sunlight that make their way through the haze of winter’s gloomy cast.
We watch the urban vinca spread across the dry dirt, finding delicate trillium flowers peeking out of the northwest woods, while spying cherry blossoms exploding delicate radiance from above, across the entire city.
Another term for March is the “Vernal Equinox,” which in Latin means, “Of the Spring.”
During the equinox the two poles of the earth are for a moment not tilted towards or away from the sun, while coming very close to equally distributing sunlight and night.
