A poem on the colors of change
This poem spotlights one of the most artistically notable seasons. This is a season that is easy to love, and often a favorite.
Stepping outside, nature is putting on a show; reflecting the changes in the season, and on this planet, we all call home.
In elder times
the seasons of night
As a surprising
we were gifted autumn
with her vintage
palate of violet
plums and gilded
which dive through
the season’s pot
the forest floor
"I believe the world is incomprehensibly beautiful. An endless prospect of magic and wonder." - Ansel Adams
As with all Wonder Mindfulness walks, we seek to practice movement and presence awareness, but also sharpen our experiences and our seeing of the world around us. For better or worse, dark or light, we have the opportunity to try again every day to see anew.
This meditation will slow the pace down and allow us to frame images before we capture them; and, in doing so, see deeply and wonderfully into our walking experiences.
A note about this week’s optimal equipment: you might enjoy carrying a macro lens for close-ups, or if you own a medium format box camera, this is a fun one to bring that along. We will be taking the time to frame our images before shooting.
As you capture images this week, see if the pre-framing helps provide a method where you can use your body, not your camera, to flowingly check out an image before stopping a while to commit. This picture frame is always with you; in meetings, waiting in line, as a passenger in a car or train. Anywhere you want to capture, frame, and take a moment, in the moment to pre-create art, this method is a tool you can use.
Imagine, too, a day when you set out quickly and forget any camera at all, even your phone. You can use your hands to “take” photographs, and come back later if you like. Or, just create without creating. Use it as a portable tool to always be looking more in-depth, with sharp awareness in the moment.
This poem contemplates how everything we want to create,
experience, feel, enjoy, touch, smell and love exists in this moment,
if we simply allow it.
A Garden of Stars
Nothing Worth Doing is Easy
swapping saffron compliments
with a proud Susan,
sitting on the thirteenth pedal
circling her black eye
Reflecting our diaphanous flights,
through this garden of stars
Worth Doing Is Easy
